Oct 09 League Summary
I need to apologize for the late league summary. At first I was thinking to skip the October summary, but then too many interesting things happened last month to not post it.
Maybe the biggest news this month was the "big sweep" by Sandeep Dube in the top box. Very impressive! He is the new October champion and only lost a single game. In the overall ranking he is in position 5. Keep an eye on him. During the last weeks I spoke to various people in the top box and apparently many of the box A players prefer to play by the old scoring system and weren't 100% used to PAR11. I think, guys, it's time to change. If you intend to play any matches outside of HFAC, you better get used to it. The world has switched to PAR11 whether you like it or not. Second runner up was Callum McCowan while Adam Rafalovich secured the safe-spot. The final results for November will be interesting since Kartik Gopal is back.
In box B Brian Daellenbach and Jan Halvorsen were in the top two spots. Technically Brian finished first, but at the same time Jan didn't complete all his games. A little behind this duo rejoined Milan Diebel after a multi-month injury. Raymund Mui and Andres Ariza showed solid performances. I believe their next hurdle will be to win more and more games against higher ranked players.
After a long break David Davies rejoined the league and instantly won box C. Ivan Castellanos followed in second just separated by two points. Ivan has definitely established himself at the top end of box C. Remember, he joined the league just this May. He is a fast riser. In the mid positions of this box finished Ken Kawaiwaiaea and Denis Langlais.
The competition in box D was tough. Everybody finished within a few points of everyone else. In the end Diane Eardley championed the box followed by Sandesh Putturaya in second. However I believe everything was possible here. It must have been a blast for also Bob Anderson, Chuck Scott, and Don Evans. I always love such type of boxes.
Box E was dominated by Goof Ball. Yes, you have read it right. For those of you watching Top Gear this is our version of "The Stig" :). Let's see how he will do in the next box up. In second spot finished Jason Giddings. Good job! It's great to see that almost all games have been finished in this box. In the past this was not always the case. I believe Nicholas Zhang had his first 3-0 victory. In the end all final scores were very close for Bruce Hergert, Greg Kautz, Carlos Tokunaga, and Nicholas Zhang.
See you at the courts!
