New Player Ranking Launched
During the last couple of weeks I spend quite some time to come up with a good monthly player ranking system for our club. Today I am happy to announce that such a system has been implemented and monthly rankings going back all the way to April 2006 are published on the website in the Previous Roster section. Starting from now, every month an updated ranking will be posted.
The goal behind the ranking system is to provide an accurate measure of each player's strength while using the results from the box league. The current system de-emphasises box boundaries and rewards players only for won games rather than also penalising for lost ones. Through publishing a monthly ranking of all players we are hoping to give more meaning to every single box league match played and give you a way to track your personal performance.
In order to perform well and move up, you have to consistently play matches. A single great month won't boost you to the top. At the same time, if you are out due to an injury for a month or two, don't worry. The system ensures that you only slowly drop in position. From experience it takes about 3 month for a new unranked player to reach his true ranking position.
The ranking system is completely automated and in order to assign scores to you correctly your name needs to be spelled consistently in every roster. If you find any inconsistencies please report them to me and I will correct it.
The ranking system has been tested with our 4 year history of results which provided more than 5000 scoring events. It has shown to do a very good job in representing relative player strength, but only your feedback will help to weed out all remaining bugs and loop holes.
The ranking rules appear slightly complex at first, but are actually quite simple. You can review them at Ranking Rules.
If you have questions or comments please send me an email or talk to me the next time you see me at the courts.
